Bob Lee Swagger, one of the world's great marksmen and the son of a Congressional Medal of Honoree, is a loner living in the Rockies. He's left the military, having been hung out to dry in a secret Ethiopian mission a few years before, when he's recruited by a lisping colonel to help find a way that the President of the US might be assassinated in one of three cities in the next two weeks. He does his work, but the shot is fired notwithstanding and Bob Lee is quickly the fall guy: wounded and hunted by thousands, he goes to ground and, aided by two unlikely allies, searches for the truth and for those who double-crossed him. All roads lead back to Ethiopia.

To the extent that I went into this movie with low expectations a little, I left shocked how much bad writing and the characters were handled. In the movie, which takes the life of Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg), a scout sniper with the military. He lost his partner in a mission that goes wrong and we're off. Now the rest of the plot works as a painting by numbers. Shoot to kill, frame, repeat. Some of the action sequences are very well designed and executed - I also believe that Antoine Fuqua might be a good choice for a movie Ghost Recon if it ever was, as this sequence (I will not spoil what is one of the best series -designed parts in the movie) was the only redeeming quality and the only reason I finished watching. I expected more ... much more.
This film was sponsored by the NRA? The love of weapons is crucial to the movie, both visually and plot-wise, and firearms are presented as the tool of good patriot passed from father to son to fight for justice and freedom. But what really happens is the nature of Wahlberg spends most of the film shooting violently people in their quest for revenge and to prove he is innocent of the shooting that a person who has been accused of shooting. Make sense? The side of the film that is intended to justify this behavior - terrible events in "Africa" (that faraway land) lead by a few rotten apples in the government - is skimmed and more abstract. Ill just bad charicaturally ... The point of the film is not justice and freedom, but the weapons and how to cool. That said, is quite nice halfway through and I found that feeds my desire for a good gun-filled action movie full of mystery and cover-ups ... Wahlberg is hilarious character: he is a true American cowboy, independent, strong, with only their firearms and a large dog company. This could have gone well, especially if the movie had stuck to the action-thriller genre: good actors, address, etc., but the plot is so poorly developed and justified the violence so that unsatisfyingly ends up being a disappointment.
"It is not the Wild West where you can clean the streets with a gun, although it is sometimes exactly what is needed." That is the Keyline in "Shooter." This film is not very political. It is alleged that at some point there are no Democrats or Republicans, but that everyone in charge is corrupt and can be purchased. The only way to solve this problem is to kill the bad guys, because competition is not capable of playing these people. What a stupid glorification of violence is this movie. Well then, the movie can at least be enjoyed for its action scenes? Actually, no. Manufacturers are trying to establish Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) and the new John Rambo here, a tough-man army that survives anything and takes around the world. It's nothing but yawn-inducing when Swagger runs through a bulletstorm without being hurt. That kind of action may have been exciting in the 80s, is simply ridiculous now. And there is even a new touch. People get fired, things explode. That's it. Nothing in the least bit inventive. Some good action films have been released this year. "Shooter" is not one of them.
