In a modern-day Southern California neighborhood and high school, student Brendan Frye's piercing intelligence spares no one. He's not afraid to back up his words with actions, and knows all the angles; yet he prefers to stay an outsider, and does - until the day that his ex-girlfriend, Emily, reaches out to him unexpectedly and then vanishes. His feelings for her still run deep; so much so, that he becomes consumed with finding his troubled inamorata. To find her, he enlists the aid of his only true peer, the Brain, while keeping the assistant vice principal only occasionally informed of what quickly becomes a dangerous investigation. Brendan's single-minded unearthing of students' secrets thrusts him headlong into the colliding social orbits of rich-girl sophisticate Laura, intimidating Tugger, substance-abusing Dode, seductive Kara, jock Brad and - most ominously - non-student the Pin. Only by gaining acceptance into the Pin's closely guarded inner circle of crime and punishment that Brendan will be able to uncover hard truths about himself, Emily and the suspects that he is getting closer to.

This is an excellent and deliciously surprising film. His style is refreshing, his dialoque fascinating, the actions of powerful, and the story is both energetic and fun. I just caught this DivX film Brick at the Sundance Film Festival and can not help hoping that many more people to see it. The incredible attention to detail by Rian Johnson (the writer / director) and the incredible performances by Haas, Zehetner and, in particular, Joseph Gordon-Levitt laudable marks this movie. I remember sitting in the theater before the movie: Brick started, completely disappointed by the last two films I had seen the night before. I really did not expect to be wowed or even awake, but from the first scene that I had to keep "the specifications of my bare." We just do not get to experience the feeling of this film: Brick already. I recommend that once outside.
The language is unintelligible and is far from being a tribute to black cinema - is more than an attempt to tear that falls outside the gender of your baby flat on face. The plot, as it is, is unbelievable, and I recalled that throughout THESE ARE THE CHILDREN OF HIGH SCHOOL behaving badly. It is not hard detectives have not earned the right to be tough. The shooting is so poor that it is almost impossible to concentrate on what's going on without being distracted by all the flubs. Maybe people will take off to see children playing at being adults, no. I would suggest that you save your hard-earned money and hire a true classic black films. That this does not die a natural death of it deserved.
This is a movie: Brick very irritating. It's like Bugsy Malone, without the songs. Everything comes through the black children as making films for his school project - bad. Unengaging is a story about a girl who goes missing Unlike, miserable and her ex-boyfriend who tries to solve the great mystery. Yawn. The dialogue is perhaps the most annoying part of brick. It is obvious that the writer has mistaken 'incomprehensible' to 'smart'. It is absurd gabbled everyone as "Jimmy C has GOOSE by the bulls and now I'm half gallons to Milwaukee. Find out where Eddie Goodbye hides his cake and then I Flapjack behind the store at a quarter past lunch." Or something like that. In truth the Brick Mystery is slightly better than January 1, but it's so irritating smart in the way they think it is necessary to bring a plug or two.
This DivX film Brick is just an example of someone trying to be smart and not seriously, it ends up being strangled by its own claim. Vi (suffered, suffered, was tortured by) this Brick movie at the Deauville Film Festival in Sebtember 2005 and can say with certainty that this was, undoubtedly, and by a big margin, which offers the worst I've seen all week and I have to say that I have struggled to find something worse since then, even when I leave the choice of DVD to my son 10 years. The Brick Mystery film is dull, turgid, lifeless and shambolic, it provides no interest or excitement and was seen by myself as a waste of 110 minutes of my existence. If you want to spend some money and waste a few hours, we arrive at a bar, have a few drinks, believe me you enjoy more. If you're looking at bright images on a distant wall that does not give you the intellectual stimulation without any hint or promise of enjoyment, this is the DivX film Brick for you. For me, it was too as a group of voluntary euthanasia and not a pleasant experience.
There is much bad to say about this movie, and so little space ... a) World-weary cynicism works in 30-40 years of age. In children of this age, is simply irritating. b) It is not nice characters c) It is not credible characters d) All are ill directly from "Bugsy Malone," but lost his appeal due to lack of Splat Pistols. e) Plot which consists entirely of holes. The plot is also hamstrung by the points b) and c) that does not really care what happens to the horrible little brats. It is too knowing, references to films is the palest of pale imitation, tediously shot, and it is quite obvious that the only direction of the actors were given were a bunch of magic markers and a packet of Valium. It should not be viewed by anyone under the age of 20 years (do they think they are ready for what they really are) or at the age of 20 (the risk of dangerously high blood pressure).
Just saw this in the Chi. International Film Festival, and we must say that this is the best Brick Mystery movie I've seen all year. Excellent tribute to the noir genre, with a sort of Raymond Chandler-Esquire to the inclination of dialogue, a kind of hard type of player, and the typical twists, turns and double crosses that come with the territory. All this takes place within the confines of a modern California high school social scene. Somehow manages to walk the line of tribute, send, and original Brick movie incredibly well. Parties were edge of your seat, the parties had me cringing in pain or shock, and I had parts in stitches. Well worth seeing.
This film: Brick was horrible. Throughout the viewing of this movie, I felt trapped inside the infant, Jr. High fantasy of an angry 14-year marginalized as he himself is expected in the role of tough guy. "That would demonstrate to everyone," he thinks, as the hard and strong that it could be if only given the right reasons. Yeah, right. The characters are one dimensional and their interactions were unrealistic and difficult. The plot was incredibly weak, drew out, too complicated, and we really do not unite in the end, though some people may be tricked into thinking that way. The dialogue was painful - clearly copied from old movies. I was cringing throughout the film. And it just kept going and going. I gave it a 2 instead of Jan. 1 because it is something original and there are a couple of pieces that I thought were funny.
