Trapper Joe is on his way to the town with all of his gain of hides of the last winter. However a group of Indians stops him and takes all of his hides, leaving him the escaped slave Joseph instead. But Joe has no use for Joseph and is determined to get his property back and follows them. Before he can do anything, the Indians are raided themselves by a group of scalphunters under the greedy Howie. Not only the hides, but also Joseph falls into their hands. Now Joe follows them alone and tries to trick the numerical superior group out of his hides.

Superficially, this is a band of white men who headed the Indian money, but the title is not really convey the spirit of the film. Perhaps "They beaver fur trade, right?" would be better. (I Runaway Train recalled that on the whole, while a runaway train is about much more.) This is one of my favorite movies from the late 60s and had a lot of great films of that time. Lancaster and Davis are amazing together. His dialogue is witty, surprising and literate. Savalas and winters are one of the most hilarious screen couples I've ever seen. The Scalphunters due to its configuration of the 19th century, can not provide a definitive answer to the question of race relations, but they convey a real sense of the stupidity of intolerance. The beauty of this Scalphunters, The Western is, it takes a serious issue should look from a nostalgic, and then shares with us a wink. Very highly recommended.

How does a good DVD movie Scalphunters, The like the great unknown Scalphunters become over the years, while everyone knows what is The Matrix? With a fine lead cast by the legendary Burt Lancaster, Ossie Davis, Telly Savalis and Shelly Winters, and with a lot of dialogue and memorable scenes, this is a great comedy western (minor spoilers). Joe Bass (Lancaster) is a fur hunter who has spent all winter collection of skins. When a package led by two Indian Crows take Joe's skins and leave with Joseph Lee (Davis), an educated slave, Bass pursued the Indians for their furs back. The two have a series of misfortunes that included a party led by Jim Howie Scalphunters (Savalis), take the skins of the Indians and Joseph Lee. Bass is now to get their skins and both his slave back. The Scalphunters, The Western works on many levels to the side of comedy. Some also might consider that a commentary on racial politics. The end of the film, when Lancaster and Davis are covered in mud and are indistinguishable is symbolism, black and white men, while a different color, are the same people.

The Scalphunters is a little treat for not eating up the box office in 1968, but whose criticism by Judith anointing of Christ as a "fun" westerns of that year started to distinguish it as a classic. Want a great story? You are in the hands of Sydney Pollock and a competent team of filmmakers who skillfully used a beautiful outdoor epic. In search of classic Hollywood stars? Well, has Scalphunters Burt Lancaster, Ossie Davis, Telly Savalas and Shelley Winters. This is a memorable classic that deals with race relations, the injustices against Native Americans, the influences of the property, and the drama of the West in an entertaining way. The story is entertaining, the performances are excellent, and the premises are of great beauty. A former Hollywood movie, a legend.

This is a watchable and never boring Western insurance. It starts strong and Lancaster feuding with Davis and the exchange of barbed comments like that make the trip. But soon the Scalphunters, The movie is that it stops and starts to go in many directions, bringing up new characters and themes that do not seem very well treated. Indeed, it seems the height of type two ex machina, and then shortly after, when the credits role that has the impression that there are still some things that have not been adequately addressed. But as I said, time passes very pleasant. Those who have seen screenwriter William Norton "The Hunting Party" will get something more interesting to see how Norton took several elements of the script of "The Scalphunters and reused in other films that several years later.
