| Truly, this is a beautiful movie. Do not go hand in hand with tears but in the end you should feel something, otherwise it simply does not have a heart. This is a city, Endora, where nothing ever happens. In that city living grapes, father of a family that consists of a mother elephant of similar proportions, two sisters and two brothers (one of them late). All rows are very good to excellent. Johnny Depp is so adorable as Gilbert Grape, the twenty-year-old son who tries to do good for everyone, but does not know quite what he wants for himself yet. Leonardo DiCaprio is simply amazing as the late Arnie. He is right, an Oscar nomination for his roll. At the time I saw this movie, I do not know yet, so at some moments I thought it really could be a late player (which is a great complement, huh?). The plot is not too spectacular, but it keeps you interested because in reality a lot of things happen to certain characteristics of sleep in this city. A lot of things that the characters say and do seem superficial, but in reality they are not meaningless that will lead to other events in history. And the arrival of Becky (Juliette Lewis) and his mother do interesting things to Gilbert. The final is unexpected, very strong and sad. And then there is the little epilogue ... This is simply a great movie: A good story, good acting, good direction. And that is all it takes. Care to stop being moved by the grape. |
| The story of a family, in a round of water the city where we get to see each of them struggle with life. Johnny Depp, again, gives another excellent performance as Gilbert, frustrated with his luck, hoping that would move away from his family, responsibilities and most of all Endora. It works to support his family, is having an affair with compliance than an older married woman and is always looking for his brother Arnie, played by Leonardo Di Caprio, but more about him later. Depp manages to capture every emotion perfectly, not in a showy strip of paper that you and makes you believe. Ultimately it is a simple story, the man is then fight love, but it is much more, the relations of the family of grapes are very well observed, the mother of enormous overweight, causing the structure of the house to crumble to the growing pains of the sisters. Should this story strikes gold with Arnie is, I remember when I saw this movie for the first time I had no idea who he was Di Caprio, I really thought that he had used a disabled actor to play the part, to see that the years to see him nominated for Oscars and the role surprised me. I have seen many movies, and his performance is one of the best I've seen. Notable in its accuracy and so mobile, when we find him sitting in the bath of cold water have been told not to spend hours before, and it breaks your heart, And Gilbert of rabies that demonstrates their frustration at not Arnie, but in life, just brilliant. So this is a movie you should see, if only for Di Caprio, but has much more than that. |
| This has been done well, interesting story and a strange, but, man, a vision was sufficient. This is because of Leonardo DiCaprio's title character, "Arnie Grape," it's hard to take in more than one dose. The young DiCaprio, at the beginning of what has become a solid career, playing the mentally challenged guy who shouts all the time. Who wants to listen to someone ranting and raving all the time? Not to me. This "act" bears thin, believe me. It is shocking to see a 400-lb woman (Darlene Cates) acting in this movie, but here he is, playing the child's mother "Bonnie" and that does a good job of acting like we all do here. This includes the rare Johnny Depp doing something really strange for him - Playing a normal person, the title character of "Gilbert Grape". As with many stories that deal with dysfunctional families, the film is not always a lot of fun to watch, but you're a souvenir. Congratulations to all concerned for a memorable movie, even if they do not care to see that for the second time .... but perhaps now it has been a long time since the first observation, and is on DVD. This is just one of many, many very interesting films that came out in 1993, one year, I think that was the best in movies. |
| The script and direction is absolutely magnificent! One of my favorite films of Johnny Depp. It's probably the best "feel good" movie in years. Johnny Depp plays brilliantly as the young, embarrassed, but pressured patient guy who just wants the best for himself and his family. Juliette Lewis is excellent as the traveler is confident that Johnny Depp is in his eye. If no one shall be cast in this role, it would be a mistake. She is the only thing you can do some of this work. Leonardo DiCaprio gives the best performance of acting I've ever seen! He was so convincing on his part (disabled children) than if it had not acted in other films I really thought he was mentally ill. Together the tear Jerker / feel-good movie turned out to be absolutely excellent! |
