Jack (Daniel Day-Lewis) lives on the site of his abandoned island commune with his 16-year-old daughter Rose (Camilla Belle). Jack has sheltered Rose from the influences of the outside world, but now Rose's emerging womanhood poses troubling questions about the days ahead. A man who has lived a life motivated by environmentalism and other altruistic causes, Jack now rages at those who do not share his concerns, like developer Marty Rance (Beau Bridges), who is building a housing tract on the edge of his property. When Jack invites his girlfriend Kathleen (Catherine Keener) and her sons Rodney (Ryan McDonald) and Thaddius (Paul Dano) to live with them, Rose feels betrayed and the situation quickly becomes precarious. Rose acts out wildly, creating chaos. As everything flies out of control, Jack finds himself trapped in an impossible place and is forced to take action.

This movie is a must-see for anyone who has witnessed or is it incest emotional. Lewis portrays Jack, a single father who has lived on an island in isolation with his daughter until his new girlfriend comes to move in. Until the arrival of the bride, Jack and daughter Rose have lived in isolation on an island compound. After the arrival of the bride, Rose of jealousy grows, and seeks to take the place of the bride. In an effort to marginalize the bride, Rosa has a new interest in finding sexuality, thinking that must be what he wants his father and is receiving from the bride. It is obvious to anyone see that Jack loves his daughter, and in many ways has been a wonderful father to her. The problem is not that they do not love her, or that he loves her too. The problem is that he loved her in the wrong direction. He was allowed to fill the void left by his mother. The high rose to the position of the spouse. Jack realizes this, and aims to repair the damage. The film also deals with the dreams of children of divorce have reconciliation. Rosa shows all the postcards sent to his mother in a wall of the house and tells the new girlfriend that "one day come back." I always find Daniel Day-Lewis participation of the characters, and Jack is no different. He is a brilliant and eccentric man who is in conflict by the desire to love and protect her daughter, and the desire to prepare to be an independent woman. He has the clarity to recognize their weaknesses, and his bumbling efforts to set things to human compassion fragility.
