When taken in the spirit, this is a very nice film, but has its share of problems, however. Sold as a parody of the way Hollywood tends to treat the actual historical events, not really live up to its promises, and that only occasionally does a decent job of lampooning his field. When it does, it is very funny - my favorite is the exchange (paraphrased) "It all depends on the Americans to save the day again!", "God, I wish it was an American." The rest of the time, however, seems content to be simply a crazy slapstick comedy that laughs at its prominent historical figures to look a bit ridiculous. Sometimes this works - I loved Neve Campbell as the performance of Elizabeth, and their hilariously exaggerated accent ... indeed, it is probably the best part of the Churchill: The Hollywood Years Comedy - but sometimes it does not, for example, Goering and Goebbels. It also has the habit of doing his jokes too obvious at times, as if the writer / director Peter Richardson was afraid that the public do not: it is not enough to Churchill fellow GI, an African-American to be relegated to the role of black the stereotypical comic relief, which actually have to point this out to us. However, it is a fun movie, but I fear it will go better with the British public that viewers of America. Whenever you're not expecting subtlety or sophisticated comedy of any kind, I hope you have fun. 7 / 10 |
I had this sitting on my shelf for a while you have purchased as part of a job lot of DVDs. But I was pleasantly surprised. The film: Churchill: The Hollywood Years is much smarter than it seems, with several jokes and knowing in which nominations must know Comic and also enjoy taking the mickey of chauvinism, of any nation. For those who do not get that this is a satire than a parody, taking into account the way that 'Churchill' Enigma machine offers W'ruff the Lord to one of the first scenes. So you do not rip roaring - so what? If you want the same jokes again heated Scary Movie franchise is more likely that your street. This is more than Richardson, Pete "The Beat" or "CA." It is brave of Churchill: The Hollywood Years Comedy film producers to pull the money in this type of production, instead of dropping to television and have to make concessions. The money is on the screen. It is a good time for movies. Reeves and Mortimer for me to play well on their way hammy cameos. Slater takes the joke and a piece of Charlie Sheen and the Churchill: The Hollywood Years film Hot Shots. The only disappointment is that Miranda Richardson is so low used. It is not a popcorn movie: Churchill: The Hollywood Years for the modern world of MTV and Big Brother, but certainly worth seeing once as a balance against such a bitch Michael Bay holidays Armageddon or Pearl Harbor. |
The idea was quite funny, probably in the paper, but unfortunately this DVD movie Churchill: The Hollywood Years fails to deliver real laughs at all. What is the point where all the giants of comedy in the film, but not give them anything particularly funny to say or do. You can see that this could have been much better. The director, Peter Richardson, has raised this issue before the real fun, "Strike." False that the Hollywood DVD film Churchill: The Hollywood Years could address how a big screen adaptation of the miners' strike UK 1984. It is the ground. But this is so wide of the mark. I give credit to the cast, which seemed to be doing the best with a rather mediocre script. Christian Slater at least part of his gave his best shot, and he had some of the best dialogue. Just seems that was not enough to go round. A tragedy. |
