If you do not like emotional movies, then you do not see "Neverwas." If you do not have tolerance for most of the holes in the plot zero, then you do not see "Neverwas." (For that reason, not seeing any movie.) If you do not like the underdog succeed, then you do not see "Neverwas". If you like any of them, then 'Neverwas "is a must see. Ian McClellan was magnificent as the man who would be king (again). I knew nothing about this movie until this popper as Netflix "We thought that might enjoy this film based on their scores from other movies that you liked." I'm glad it did. I agree with other comments I read here: The music leaves much to be desired. Does not fit the tone of the film. In addition, the DVD is dated 2005 as a date, but the two previews on the DVD for movies were being released in 2007 (one of the underdog come out shortly.) Weird. The plot can go two ways: 1) Neverwas there and the king would lead him to the doctor, or 2) Neverwas only exists in the minds of the children's book author and her readers. Placer sufficient decided to make the film a third way: 3) A combination of 1 and 2.
I do not know where eabrownfield (the guard) was outside telling people to "stay away" from Neverwas. This is a magical and very moving story. An excellent premise with an excellent cast and stellar performances from all involved. The scenic setting fire to the good shots, often showing the differences between the dark and light sides of life. I say dark, yes there are parts in this movie that are hard hitting, poinient moments that really make you think you inside the characters being played, once again I think this is due to the great performance. The other side is the story of fairy tale that runs through the whole film, not that he became one of the children of the film at all, as a story that I'm sure many can relate to and enjoy told in this way. They say it probably deserves its PG13 rating, its perhaps not for youngsters, despite its fairy tale like appearance. Overall go see this movie, you will not be disappointed, I had a great time.
This is a great movie! Joshua Michael will be put on the map, so to speak. Ian McKellen is his usual great self, and William Hurt, Alan Cumming are fantastic in it too. Michael Moriarty is back on screen after its interruption, and completely captivating. Cynthia Stevenson and Vera Farmiga are absolutely gorgeous. All these great players are playing for patients in an insane asylum, as well as Ken Roberts, who plays Terrence - a surprisingly touching performance. Mr Roberts and the script must be nominated. This film is a brilliant surprise and a must-see! Congratulations on everything, especially for Joshua Michael Stern, whose script is the best surprise of all, however, as he weaves pathos, comedy and the human condition in a captivating, sometimes fascinating work. This will happen as one of the "good old films"
This is one of those quiet little film that you'll see a day because they have nothing better to do and the plot sounds OK, but we really have not heard much about. Then leave the theater wondering why the whole world knows that he has not gone to see it yet. Ian McKellen and Aaron Eckhart give strong performances easily pulling the emotion necessary for the film, and the launch of humor enough to keep you interested. Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, William Hurt, Brittany Murphy and exit of all major support functions without overshadowing the main actors. Alan Cumming, although his role is small, it really pulls at the heart strings with his image of a patient of the institution. Because this movie has had very little (if any) advertising, I think this film will do well based on word of mouth alone. Definitely a "hidden jewel."
