| This Three Kings Drama film sneaks in you - I expected a "renegade soldier" type and got back a political thinker, together with the taste of the real world after the Gulf War. It raises issues I have not heard or thought much, but it should be. As much cerebral input, as the action - a good mix of me. Much better than I expected. |
| David O. Russell 's satirical story of the war in Iraq based on principles of the'90s after Saddam invaded Kuwait is both hilarious and thought-provoking. I love the characters, irony, history and direction in this film. The script is brilliant, Oscar worthy in my book (which was written better than films like Being John Malkovich, Topsy-Turvy, Magnolia, and even the sixth sense, in my opinion), every Three Kings film has nominations, but all ways ... Three Kings offers some great performances as Clooney is perfect in the lead and Ice Cube and Spike Jonze are both very funny characters. Mark Wahlberg was decent. The supporting cast includes Cliff Curtis and Said Taghmoui showing 2 different parts of the Iraqis, including a rebel leader and another one of the guards of Saddam. This Three Kings Drama film is perfect and one of my favorites. 10/10 |
| A controversial Three Kings film about four soldiers from the U.S. entering Iraq after the Gulf War in order to steal gold bullion that robbed the Iraqis from Kuwait. The repatriation of Kuwaiti extravagant wealth looted by Iraqi forces during their invasion of Kuwait was rather cynically portrayed here as a reason, among many (?) In the 1991 Gulf War. Whatever the real causes were, this is an excellent Three Kings Drama about the ambiguous aftermath of this conflict, with the U.S. and Iraqi forces under a ceasefire agreement that left the nascent Iraqi insurgency against Saddam swinging in the wind. With George Clooney as Major Archie Gates, and Mark Wahlberg as Sergeant Barlow, Ice Cube as Sergeant Chief Elgin, and Spike Jonze as PFC Conrad Vig, especially the intention bolstering its way north into Iraq to find a cache Kuwaiti gold buried by the Iraqi army near the city of Karbala. Stealing Saddam's what he stole from Kuwait and in the process of engaging with the Shiites who now face the wrath of Saddam after staging an uprising with support from the U.S. government, but now they are helpless in the light of the cease-fire that left Saddam and his best troops in power. Smart and cynicial, with humor and poignant portraits outstanding cultural, and a great performance from Wahlberg as the super patriot who gets a real education about the human price of this war paid by innocent Iraqis. |
