| Dante's Peak (1997) is one of those films that puts you on the edge of their seats from start to finish. The movie stars Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton. Brosnan plays a volcanologist who is sent to a small town in Washington State. He soon discovers that the dormant volcano for which the city was named after is a time bomb waiting to explode. Then, said the town's mayor (Hamilton) that Dante's Peak is the damage on the road if the volcano erupted. It's just a matter of time before loose hell peaks in the Cascades. The visual effects are excellent and the performance is quite good. This film stars ********* deserves a perfect 10! |
| Something for the chicks and me. :) Yes, this is the typical Hollywood plot-Boy-Meets-Girl and Something Terrible-Is-A-Go-Reality-But-No-One-Believe's-Me. But he said that ... science is good, the romance is good, and the special effects are excellent. ** For the chicks .. Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton look great together, and the chemistry is warm and fuzzy. The setting is an image of a postcard, a town in the Cascade Mountains, fresh air, children, and white picket fences, breath-taking landscapes, and festivals in the city. Sweet. Sano. Perfect. ** For me .. Science is cool, and the special effects are excellent. If you can sand through your teeth and romance cutsy-wutsy small town .. you get the satisfaction of some great special effects such as the volcano began a ** and completely erased the city and everything around it. |
| I like this, not because I am a fan of Pierce Brosnan (SOOOOOOOO GOD IS CUTE), or Linda Hamilton, but because it is the best of the 2 volcano movies in time. SPOILER ALERT ****** !!!!!****** The best part of the movie is when fucking Hamilton 2 children decided to drive to his grandmother's house (She lives in the mountains), when the volcano erupted. Of course, Brosnan and Hamilton have to go up to rescue the children. Who are lava, ash and water to become acidic. The later becomes a problem when you have to cross a river in a boat made of metal. When the volcano finally going and are racing the cloud, which is awesome! Part of you is screaming Run! 8 out of 10 stars! I deducted 2 stars because the children end up in my ever-loving nerve! |
| Near a small picturesque town in the American West, a dormant volcano decides to become hyper active. And, as one might expect from a film of disaster, chaos occurs. The film of the first half acquaints viewers with the two main characters, played by Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton. It was also submitted to the city and get a tour of its main attraction, the photogenic mountain that is about to awaken. The second half is chaos. For people who like action movies, "Dante's Peak" is a very good choice. The visuals, sound and special effects are reasonably attractive. There are a lot of exciting drama, and the film of the second half is fast. However, if you are looking for a credible story, go elsewhere. The formula script is bland and unimaginative, and that is full of movie cliches. Of course, which is a problem with most disaster movies in the genre. The stories and the plot elements are basically the same, only different disaster: tornado, burning skyscrapers, the sinking of the ship, earthquakes, or (in this case) volcano. I would not say "Dante's Peak" is a disaster movie. However, the script is so cookie-cutter like to be a virtual clone of every disaster movie that has gone before. |
| This "disaster film" had some of the best special effects of its day (almost 10 years ago). I say "their day" because technology has become dated quickly CGI these days. This film is about a volcano, the Mt. St Helen's, rash and killing people and destroying a small town below it. Some of the scenes were just jaw-dropping and, at least for the first time spectator, a great deal of suspense over whether the main characters of the story is going to survive. Of course, there are some gaps in the credibility here, things that just can not happen, like a child will drive up the hill (where your feet do not reach the foot pedals!), But you just go along for the ride and enjoy of the tension and special effects, even if the story is a bit of Hokey. It might not be the smartest movie, but it's very entertaining 109 minutes, and that the name of the company. It is good escapist fare, and that's it. It is worth two eyes. |
| Dante's Peak is perhaps the best film of a volcano ever. It is much better than the volcano and also better than the Mt. St Helens, although I like the 1981 movie with Art Carney. The eruption and lava flows that are realistic and special effects are excellent. Even I believe that you are in this movie you see on a big screen. The biggest star is an actor, but not the mountain itself. Even that seems to have to break out sooner or later and that reminds me of Mt. St Helens, also the story with old who does not want to move from his home-in fact it was Harry Truman. In fact, there is a lot of movies about volcanoes, and that's a shame. But it's even better if you just make a few good ones. Linda Hamilton and Pierce Brosnan, along with children and the rest give a good performance (I was happy to see Linda in a Blockbuster again). So I recommend this movie to everyone who likes volcanoes. It is going to maintain and is ok. I 8.5/10pts. |
