I thought it was excellent Elizabethtown. The writing was great and the performance was excellent. I was especially impressed by Orlando Bloom. His image of Drew's emotional growth throughout the film was excellent. It really proves that he can act in this movie. Kirsten Dunst also did a very good job. I loved the setting of the film. All the relatives of Drew added a human touch to the film. However, I am disappointed that Elizabethtown is not getting very good reviews. I just hope that many people go to see anyway. I also hope that Orlando Bloom is its recognition that it deserves. I encourage anyone who likes a warm, sincere, well acted film does not pass the opportunity to see this movie. |
I do not know. It seems to me that Americans have lost their taste for "small" movies - films that emphasize character, instead of explosions and movement. You get the same kind of reviews with films like Tim Burton wonderful Big Fish or Terminal Spielberg. I will admit that the Dunst character is a cliche, but this movie is really about the extras, the characters step out of the background, have their moment and step back again. Paula Dean stands out as a woman to whom the family - * all * of his family - is very important and that keeps it together with food and photographs. I'm not from Kentucky or the South, although I have lived in the South to a number of years. I'm not interested in * * my extended family - and in that sense I am much closer to the character that Bloom dean of the character. But I recognize that this movie is a big portrait of a certain kind of family life. Also, the dead father becomes a very well-rounded character indeed, as you think about the contradictions of his life. This is a movie that he expects the audience to do a little work, and very well paid for that work. |
Only someone who has lost a parent, can fully understand the range of emotions that the main character (Orlando Bloom) portrays. I felt her confusion, shock, numbness, trying to keep together in a life suddenly turned upside down, where nothing feels right. I thought he did a great job to show us the confusion. I do not think that was the greatest love story. However (Kirsten) show (Orlando) how sad, and start again. I think we jumped too far from a place where a wonderful friendship that had started too fast in love, that under the circumstances, would not have been prepared for. The root of the film was similar to my father in law of, whom I never met. Therefore, many people packed into a small house, we had to go single file, from our side to get to places at the table, and everyone shouting to be heard. It is impossible to remain strangers for long. It's wonderful being part of one big family. Therefore, I loved this part in particular. I liked the movie, is interesting. |
This film is different from most in that it is not the reality - is more like an inner dialogue played out so we can see it. There are several laugh out loud moments that should not be missed. They lifted even in a second window. The juxtaposition of Orlando Bloom, the fiasco of historic proportions or failure of his father's funeral / Chuck and Cindi wedding / and maybe find your life mate, Kristen Dunst, are all woven into a time (not) place called Elizabethtown, that is magical. For me the magic worked. There were a couple of things that did not click, but above all it is authentic, funny and affecting. Alec Baldwin is perfect as Phil, the footwear magnate. Just the right mix of bonhomie, threat, and SMART-guy-in-charge to fill the role. Susan Sarandon seems a little distracting at first, but by the final "good" - not expected to say - "works" that there is better. Their contribution is edifying. As for the "World's second largest Farmer's Market" - is not on any map that does not map of the human heart. |
