| Before it was cut up prostitutes on Wall Street, Christian Bale was the boy standing on top of an air traffic control tower, cheering as American bombers set waste to the airstrip at Camp Japanese POWs is currently a resident. As a pampered British boy named Jim "Jamie" Graham who is separated from his parents after the fall of Shanghai before the American involvement in World War II, Bale is simply amazing. A young performer at 12, he is forced to grow rapidly as a prisoner of the Japanese forces decision, make friends wherever they can, including Basie (John Malkovich), his friend Frank (Joe Pantoliano), and even young Kamikaze pilot who lives in barracks on the other side of the fence. "Empire of the Sun", an adaptation of the novel by JG Ballard, is often cited as a director of Steven Spielberg's weaker films, but disagree. It is well known that has a special place in his heart of the Second World War, and it's something he loves and loathes. It is one of the next few years, that story really exhausting understands the nature of reality and that represents, despite its "PG" rating, it is still something for a mature audience. We are with Jamie all the way, is that only 12, remember, but which has already seen enough to last a lifetime. The only major flu with this picture is its execution time, and some scenes tend to drag for a long time, but that is only a minor complaint in a story that is truly epic. 10/10 |
| When I saw this movie for the first time I was fifteen years of age kid more interested in the fact that Christian Bale was on him that what was coming. I had no idea what it was or how I end. From the opening frames of the film to the last scene of young Jim's eyes closed slowly, is a masterpiece in the movies. This film should be regarded as one of the most visually stunning films of all time. Spielberg, in his infinite wisdom, has created a film of such beauty and sadness, I can not compare with anything else I have ever seen. The performance of Bale brought me to tears. I have never seen someone your age or older take that performance. He has remained not only a pretty face, but a real jewel in the art of conducting. Entranced by every moment and every actor in the movie, has inspired me to follow my own performance in hopes of moving on to someone how the actors in this film moved me. I also began to study further in the period and read the novel itself. Speilberg was so faithful to the novel that you can even pick up the most minute details in the film. I recommend this movie to anyone who has not seen. It's my favorite movie of all time and will remain an inspiration to me as a performer and as a person. |
| This story is inspirational. It is considered once a year - probably in December around Christmas. The first vision was Christmas 2005. The indomitable spirit and courage of this young protagonist natural solved within my emotions and spirit. It was like one of those rare, truly a great night dreams that one has infrequently. The music supports this unique and beautiful story. Christmas 2006 has been met with a second viewing experience. This film could promote peace on earth. I borrowed from the film two years after the public library. Next year, I can buy my own copy. Mr Steven Spielberg makes incredible job! Schendler's List, Into the West, and now Empire of the Sun are movies that are worth repeating watchings and use of shelf life. |
| What can I say? I saw this movie for the first time in 1988, he was 11 years old. I do not know what it was about the movie that intrigues me so much at that age, but it's my favorite movie to see and remains to this day. Empire of the Sun Spielberg is probably the best film, without a doubt. The photograph in this movie is amazing. Everything is real, not CGI to throw away from reality in mind what makes this film so moving. I do not know how Spielberg filmed half of this movie, all I can say is "long". Empire of the Sun is a very emotional film, and all aspects of being a prisoner of war are very detailed. John Malkovich and Joe Pantoliano had outstanding performances in this film, not to mention Christian Bale's performance was just weird for his age. Spielberg captured images very funny in this movie, and probably never see more than ever in a movie. Empire of the Sun is an extraordinary film and it is clear to see. See this movie, thanks to me! |
| Empire of the Sun is about a wealthy British boy living in British-controlled states of China during WW2. He is torn from their parents and placed in a camp for British citizens. It is finding a way to connect the good of his old life to the good life in the camp and a life filled with war, but believes that no matter what there is not a good war. This is an incredibly underrated movie that should be seen by a mature, observant person. This film is laced with compassion and power in one place. A must see for fans to war (or for fans of Spielberg). No matter what even if they hate this movie, you have a favorite part. Spielberg One of the greatest films ever made (in person their elders). 10/10 |
| When I saw for the first time the movie epic "Empire of the Sun", inspired by director Steven Spielberg I became emotionally involved in the story and could not help but shed a tear for the truly remarkable piece of cinema. Christian Bale makes undoubtedly better than any other actor in Hollywood is a movie that is twice his age. As he closes his eyes at the end of the film in one of the most moving scenes I can remember, you see just what a fantastic job Spielberg has done to bring J. G Ballard's classic book on the screen. It has not always been a film more inspiring to me while following my dream to become a director like this. At the end of it you feel you want to move people to do everything that a movie were moved by this one. Beautifully acted, beautifully shot - no other film never compare to this. |
