Most of the positive comments listed here reflect my opinion of this movie (subtle, powerful, honest, depressing), so I'm not going to beat the dead horse and describe how great a movie this is. I just wanted to add that the James Horner score, one of his first, frankly, is brilliant and deserves an official publication on CD. Listen to it and treat it as the basis for most of its future "dramatic" scores, such as "Titanic" and "Apollo 13". James Horner is one of the few composers who can mourn with his music alone, and I think it is because it reminds me of this movie when I hear it. SPOILER ***** ***** The scene in which the young Japanese boy (a remarkable performance, taking into account that is mentally in real life and surprisingly, never mentioned in any of these comments) believes that the lack of toy bears causing possibly the most emotional response from me that I have never experienced while watching a movie. Testament, as of this date, is surely the saddest movie I have ever seen. I've never been more emotionally exhausted. It is ending ranks up there with the original "Resurrection" as one of the most disturbing endings I have seen. |
1983 .. The Cold War was in full swing and the fear of nuclear Armageddon hanging over all our heads. ABC published "The Day After" (which I have already commented), but throughout the furor surrounding it, "Testament" was released. This is the 1980s nuclear war movie. Not cope with the effects of a whole community, but rather in a small, close to the family in California. Jane Alexander was the return of a legend, and is possibly one of the classic drama of all time. The day begins innocently enough, Dad heads to work, to see the children "Sesame Street" .. then the emergency broadcast system in the courts and the world stops. Ignore all the Y2K Mumbo-Jumbo and put back in 1983 (most of us know where we are) and see this movie. You can not be "entertaining" but you will understand what you have just a little more. |
This is one of those movies that is very draining to see, but it's worth. It's a little more tame to the area, but very well done. It is often compared to "wire", which many people think it's too graphic. Regardless, I like both films. I have to say that "Testament" will be more realistic for the rural poor, who may die slowly, just like the characters in this movie do, instead of being subjected to the immediate effects of the attack. Rebecca De Mornay of the appearance in this movie, which only saw after seeing "In the early dawn of Light", makes a connection between these two films. Everybody should see both movies at least once, too. Excellent performances by Harris and Rossi Mako make this film stand out even more. Having seen "The Day After" now, I prefer "Testament" but find two excellent films. |
