Romantic comedy set in London in the late 16th century: Young playwright William Shakespeare struggles with his latest work 'Romeo and Ethel the Pirate's Daughter'. A great fan of Shakespeare's plays is young, wealthy Viola who is about to be married to the cold-hearted Lord Wessex, but constantly dreams of becoming an actress. Women were not allowed to act on stage at that time (female roles were played by men, too), but dressed up as a boy, Viola successfully auditions for the part of Romeo. Soon she and William are caught in a forbidden romance that provides rich inspiration for his play.

Excellent film with great performances from Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow. The film is a visual extravaganza for lovers of costume. Interconnection of the love story of Romeo and Juliet with that of the central characters of the film revolves a unique story unforgettable. Probably the only movie I've seen so many kisses between the main protagonists. It seems that John Madden is a scene between two scenes of kissing just to break the kissing scene in two! If I were the boyfriend of Gwyneth, I would be insanely jealous.
Especially at the beginning of this movie rapid cuts do something difficult to achieve in the plot, but once you're there, is irresistible, with wonderful links to the real Romeo and Juliet, and the development of the game that in comparison with the movie itself. I myself have chosen a player is going to Shakespeare, but I do not mind either. This is a movie you should see.
This goes to show what has become of the Oscars. "Shakespeare in Love" wins best film, when it comes to a movie that easily could have been a television movie of the week. A typical romantic comedy, like many others that have been seen before. And to think that Gwyneth Paltrow won the Oscar for Best Actress .... even more of a disgrace. Ask yourself a favor and watch the movie "Emma" before seeing it, so you can see the vast difference between Gwyneth's remarkable performance in that movie and its sad-excuse-of-a-performance in this film. She could easily have been someone from the cleaning in this movie - that life was how his performance. The costumes in this film may have had a pretty colors, but they were too theatrical - that were more suited to a Broadway musical, not a film about the 16th century. The beautifully embroidered costumes in "Elizabeth" were much more deserving of an Oscar. Judi Dench and walked away with an Oscar for her 8 minutes on the screen? That was just 8 minutes from the screen, rather than 8 minutes of spoken words. Most times, she just walks around, or it's sitting, and yawns. There are many other films last year that were more deserving of awards, something that the Academy did not realize, and instead left it too generous.
Therefore, many others (both here and in external reviews) have extolled the virtues of this movie that there is much I can add. Romeo and Juliet is something that I always seemed pleasant, but so much work to really understand (the language, the UNP, lack of stage directions ...). This movie brought Shakespeare to life in ways never thought possible. I had tears in my eyes when I realized how much the film would be parallel to the work. But because it is not the same as that game, familiarity with Romeo and Juliet did not "ruin the movie for you, that makes it even better. The writers did a wonderful job of playing off the audience familiarity with the game to throw in some surprises. Even if you can predict everything that happens in the end, the movie becomes so good that you will not be disappointed.
When I comment on movies or when I tell family or friends about the movies, I like to go into detail about why I liked each character, script, the actors performance, etc. .. With "Shakespeare in Love," I can not do that here. Why? Because I am typing walk and go on forever. That is, to put it simply, an excellent movie. Sure, there are aspects of that historic moment not Jive, but this film was designed to entertain, not to give us a history lesson. I have read many works of Shakespeare and, in particular, I have read and reread and re-read Romeo and Juliet. But in the last few minutes of "Shakespeare in Love" I still I am starting to shed a tear. Norman and Stoppard parallel the relationship between Shakespeare / Viola and Romeo / Juliet probably more than was actually the case, and it is masterful. The results of the first pair were impressive. The ... See? Here I go ... I knew I should not have gotten into it. : O) The film is beautifully done. Although when the trailer for the first time in the air and I wanted very badly to see, the first time they actually saw was on DVD. That's a record that I am very happy that I bought it. I'm just sorry I waited so long. Bravo. RATING: 5 of 5
In all great movie. Wonderful performance of Joseph Fiennes as Shakespeare with writer's block in search of inspiration and love in Gwynneth Paltrow. Some good work from big names in the minor roles, among them Judi Dench as Queen Elizabeth and Geoffrey Rush as the theater director trying to avoid the sheriff and its creditors. In case of obtaining the best picture.
A romantic comedy does not get much better than Shakespeare in Love. Here is a movie that captures the feeling of England 400 years ago. It's still romantic light. It's funny, but it is complex enough to provide enjoyment for lovers of literature. Sets England 400 years ago, the costumes and makeup of the character including his poor dental work just right. You can almost smell the streets. The hero, Shakespeare, is excellent played by Joseph Fiennes. He is sympathetic, but never pathetic. As for Gwyneth Paltrow, displaying their range of boyishness to radiance. This is the first film I've seen it believed that it could become a great actress. There is also a great supporting cast, especially Judi Dench, who all have good and melodramatic comic instincts. The film never plods. The screenplay is rich with romance, emotion and action. The plot weaves several stories and themes. You can enjoy a simple love story with some kind of action and suspense about the basic production of a play or you can get much deeper into the film's complex tapestry of ideas and jokes. But most important of the film is always the mood and the light is never exaggerated (unlike other recent film about love have not been met, Great Expectations). Worthy of its Oscar, this is simply a great movie.
