A middle-aged crime boss (Malcolm McDowell) smugly reflects back from 1999, narrating the brutality which made him triumphant - and feared. As an unnamed young hood (played by Paul Bettany) in Swinging 60's London, he seemed to ape his mod boss Freddie Mays (David Thewlis), and do anything for him. But his narration exposes all-consuming envy: of Freddie's supremacy, and especially his tall bird (Saffron Burrows). The baby shark develops his viciousness and backstabbing, scheming to be Gangster No. 1.

I caught a few minutes of this movie on television a week ago. Ironically I was doing a lot of fake blood at the time and therefore can not sit and watch the whole thing. But from the moment he began to see him, who had hooks in me. Paul Bettany who plays the main character ( "Gangster") as a young man is surprisingly good. His performance is incredible, and is the latest embodiment of the brutal, sadistic, evil I've seen in a movie. He is also the scariest thing I have seen in a movie, and I've seen a lot of characters from fear. This movie contains the most terrifying interrogation that I have seen in the movie, and the most brutal and horrible murder I have ever seen in the movie (I custom drainage in case you do decide to check it out.) This is one of these films that is hard to see, but impossible to turn away from. Will get stuck in your head for a couple of days and you feel a little Whack yourself. That's great cinema. Honestly, this is probably the most effective crime-drama-mafia movie I've seen. You may not agree, but check it anyway-warning-this movie contains some of the most intense and realistic violence I witnessed on screen, is brutal and not for the squeamish, hell, even serious violence vets'd was a little shocked by this. Great movie, can not praise enough.
